Update 23.4.3: Balance Changes for Hearthstone, Battlegrounds, and Mercenaries – Hearthstone

Update 23.4.3 will be rolling out to the Inn today. This brings a new round of balance changes to Hearthstone, battlefields and mercenaries. Find all the details in the full patch notes below.

Released on June 16, Update 23.4.3 contains several balance changes for Standard, Battlegrounds, and Mercenaries, among other things!

Developer Comment: This update has many major balance changes for Standard Mode (as well as one for Free Mode) with different goals. First, we want to reduce the power of the strongest decks in the metagame (the Blight Demon Hunter and Control Warrior variants). A good half of these adjustments are to balance and correct the win rate of these particular decks.

The rest of the changes in this update have more to do with improving the gaming experience for people facing some of the most divisive maps in the game.

The power of the following cards has been reduced:

shield bash

  • Old: Deal 5 damage to all minions. Costs (1) less crystal for each point of armor you have. Now: Deal 4 damage to all minions. Costs (1) less crystal for each point of armor you have.

Returning from the tides

  • Previously: Battlecry: Deal 5 damage. Gain 8 armor points. Now: Battlecry: Deal 5 damage. Gain 5 armor points.

Nellie’s Pirate Ship (Nellie’s colossal summons, the legendary Lamia)

  • Previously: Provocation. Deathrattle: Add Nellie’s Pirate Crew to your hand. Costs (1) crystal. Now: Provocation. Deathrattle: Add Nellie’s Pirate Crew to your hand. Costs (1) less crystal.

Threat from the deep

  • Previously: [Coût : 3] → Now : [Coût : 4]

Developer Comment: Both the Charge Warrior and Control Warrior variants are too powerful in ranked play, and the more you rank up, the higher their win rate. These two archetypes share several key cards, these adjustments are intended to reduce their effectiveness. While these decks won’t be completely gone after this update, we hope to make some of their more frustrating moves impossible (or at least less daunting) (for example, Nellie’s ability to create a Mr. Smite at a cost of 1 ).

Caria Vile Soul

  • Previously: [Coût : 6] 6 ATK / 6 HP. Battlecry: Transform into a 6/6 copy of a demon in your deck. Now : [Coût : 7] 7 ATK / 7 HP. Battlecry: Transform into a 7/7 copy of a demon in your deck.

War-Worn Vanguard

  • Previously: 2 ATK / 2 HP → Now: 2 ATK / 1 HP

Developer Comment: The other class that has had an excessive win rate since the last miniset was released is the Demon Hunter. We may be happy to see that the revised and corrected version of Xhilag works fine, but we can’t say that we appreciate knowing that Caria can create a copy with a bit of progress. In addition to slowing down this interaction, we retire a point of view at the avant-garde used by the war in order to reduce our chances of having the coup in the beginning of the party, and also the origin of an effect snowball.

Madpaw Gnoll

  • Previously: 4 ATK / 5 HP → Now: 3 ATK / 5 HP

Developer Comment: The Rogue is one of the most played classes in Standard mode and we felt it was unfair to make adjustments to other popular classes without reducing their power to a minimum. Balancing Madpaw Gnoll wasn’t easy, but we’re confident this new change will stabilize both the map and the class.

Lightforged Cariel

  • Previously: [Coût : 7] → Now : [Coût : 8]

Developer Comment: It’s fine if Heroic cards allow your class to shine late game, but we feel like Cariel was helping her class too early. Paladin enjoys a good balance within the current metagame, and thanks to the other adjustments in this update, that shouldn’t change.

Bile Lasher Siren

  • Previously: [Coût : 4] 2 ATK / 5 HP → Now : [Coût : 5] 2 ATK / 6 HP

Developer Comment: Bile-Lashing Siren is a very fun and interesting card for Naga Mages decks, but we think it could kill games without being able to counter it. This tweak is meant to give your opponents one more turn to manage the troops you can spawn.

Developer Comment: Druid can’t be said to be dominating since the last miniset was released, but losing to him can be very frustrating. We found Scales of Earth too efficient compared to its 1 crystal cost. Additionally, we’re increasing its cost by 1 to make the class a bit easier to attack in the mid game.

Developer Comment: Our post-release review of the miniset led us to take a look at Freemode, and more specifically, the High Shaman decks. Sometimes these can pack some serious hits early on, rendering any resistance useless. We quickly identified the main source of this problem, both short-term and long-term: Lightning Bloom. That is why we are making such an adjustment.

Developer Comment: Mr. Smite is a powerful card that can kill games, but it’s not meant to be that strong right now. This tweak should make him a bit more manageable in the mid-game, while also slowing down the various combos he engages in.

  • Previously: 5 ATK / 4 HP → Now: 4 ATK / 3 HP

Developer Comments: While we’re generally happy with the mechanics that Professor offers, a Battlecry card this powerful doesn’t need such stats. This tweak shouldn’t diminish its appeal, but hopefully it will make it less ubiquitous.

You can collect the full dust value of the above cards for 2 weeks after the implementation of Update 23.4.3 (the Fundamental versions of the cards, as well as the golden versions of the Guardian awarded as part of the reward track ofIn the heart of the sunken city are not affected).

Developer Comment: We are making this change for clarity only, it is not functional.

Pyraride – Brick to brick

  • Previously: [Coût : 1] Gives +4 HP to a random friendly minion. → Now : [Coût : 0] Give a minion +2 HP (Gain +1 HP every turn you don’t use it!).

Tamsin Roame – Scented Speech Bubble

  • Previously: Start of the fight: Destroy your minion with the lowest HP. Grants its characteristics to four other allied minions. → Now: Start of the fight: Destroy your minion with the lowest HP. Grants its stats to five other allied minions.

Updated armor levels

The following heroines and heroes have increased their armor level as follows:

  • Al’Akir, Faelin Ambassador, Galakrond, Malygos, Vol’jin now have level 2 armor.
  • C’Thun now has level 3 armor.
  • Bru’kan, Edwin VanCleef, Fungimancer Flurgl, and Queen Azshara now have level 5 armor.
  • Deathwing, Elise Starseeker, Illidan Stormrage, Lord Jaraxxus, and Tess Greymane now have level 6 armor.
  • Aranna Starseeker, Cariel Roame, King Mukla, Lord Saurfang, Rakanishu, The Curator, and The Rat King now have level 7 armor.

Bug fixes and improvements

  • Zarjira’s Upstart Acolyte team freeze effect will no longer trigger if your opponent’s board is already completely frozen. This is a temporary fix until the effect becomes: “Each turn, the first time an allied character is frozen, freeze a random opponent. »
